Once you have decided you would like to use professional auto transport services to moving your car from one place to another, you need to take some measures and prepare the car for shipping. Here, you will learn what you should do to get your vehicle ready for the car shipping.
First of all, you need to wash your car well. Once your car is clean, you can inspect it for any preexisting damages like scratches, dents and paint chips which may be the result of normal wear and tear on a used vehicle. It is much easier to notice those problems on a clean car. That way you will be aware of the condition of your vehicle before pick up.
The next thing you should do is take photos of the existing damages if any. Make sure photos are clear enough to see the condition of the car at that moment. Make adjustments on your camera so that every photo includes the date it was taken. This photos may serve as reference in case of a claim, although it happens rarely. The driver will record those existing damages on the Bill of Landing and the time of pick up. This is an inspection report which you have to sign before giving your car to car to shipping company.
Don’t forget to remove all your valuable items from your car. Don’t leave anything expensive inside, like custom stereos or GPS systems. Also, free your car from any parking tags and toll passes. Moreover, in case you have custom alarm system, make sure it is disabled.
Finally, secure or remove any loose parts or specialty items such as ground effects, spoilers, fog lights, wide mirrors, and lower or remove the antenna if possible. Make sure the radiator has adequate levels of fresh antifreeze. Be sure that the battery is secure and has no leaks. Leave only about 1/4th tank of gas in the vehicle, as a full tank of gasoline adds a lot of costly weight to the transport. More detailed information you can find on our FAQ page.
